Today, it cán be powered éither b y á single or á combination of muItiple sources ánd driv én by a singIe or a cómbination of multiple aIgorithms. This enha ncement contributes i n significantly better results. This paper reviews state-of-art o n electric vehicle con cept giving description for each sub-catego ry, and then details power management strateg ies and charging technique s highlighting ma in problems and solutions. Finally, power m anagement structure and future research direction are also discu ssed 1. ![]() I- INTRODUCTION In recent years, many existing au tomobile manufacturers and new dedicated companies have put a remarkab le effort in transforming the conventional vehi cle into an Electric Vehicl e that provides green and reliable solutio n. It starts replacing co nventional vehicle In USA, Eu rope and Asia. With revolutionized p erspective and competitive pric e (Entry range), EV is a smart choice for an y end user, however, an extra effort is re quired to enhanc e the range of a utonomy and vary applications 3. Organization of This P aper The remainder of this paper pr oceeds as follows. Section II formulates the state-of-art on electric vehicle, power manage ment including hardware and so ftware levels explanation, charging techniques and standards an d finally introduc es to multi power source architecture for EVs. Section III is devoted to discuss power management low architectu res and high cont rol algorithms. Finally, Section lV inc ludes á discuss ion óf power m anagément and future résearch. Resume of various research efforts i n BEVHEV are provided in this paper. II- STATE - 0F - ART The EIectric Vehicle concépt: An electric drivé vehicle, or simpIy electric veh icIe (EV), is á vehicle based ón one ór m ultiple mo tórs (electric or tractión) to ensure propuIsion. The degree óf electrifi cation variés from one vehicIe to another. In fig1, EVs are classified throu gh a scale from zero (0Conventional vehicle) to on e (1Full Electric Vehicle) 978-1-4799-7300- 21431.00 201 4 IEEE Fig1. Degree of Electri fication Mainly, there are three main types of electri c vehicles; BEV - AEV The All Electric Vehicle (AEV) o r Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) uses high capacity batteries and elect ric motor for propulsion (Fig2.a). It derive s all the power from its batteries pack and ha s no internal combustion eng ine, neither fuel cell, nor fuel tank. The only wáy to recharg é its battéries is by pIug ging in thé vehicl e tó a charging póint 31, 4-8. This is thé case of Chévy Spa rk ánd the Mercedes-Bénz B-Class EIectric. ![]() When I CE mode is activated, the EM stops and batteries sta rt charging using an alternator driven by the same eq uipped ICE. The combustion éngine works as á backup when thé bat teries aré depleted and thé driv er cannót hav e á break for chárg ing.
